Happy Spring 2019 (aka: Ceiling Fan Season)

March 20, 2019 at 5:58pm EDT It’s Official

We, here at Modern Fan Outlet would like to keep this article simple, by wishing you a happy Spring 2019. Although it really doesn’t feel like spring in our area today (Greensboro, NC) and in many other areas of the United States, it is, none-the-less, the first day of spring. Spring has sprung!

We would also like to remind the readers of this blog post, and our past and future customers that it is the time of year to reverse your ceiling fans back to their cooling mode.

The cooling mode for a ceiling fan, or its forward direction, is when the fan is rotating in a counter-clockwise motion. If you reversed your ceiling fans this past fall/winter to bring trapped warm air down from the ceiling, which is the clockwise rotation of the blades, then as soon as the weather decides to warm up, and feel like spring supposed to feel, you should definitely reverse your ceiling fans to be efficient at keeping you cooler this spring, as well as this upcoming summer.

Ways to Make Sure You Are Looking at the Rotation Correctly

It has come to our attention from both from local customers in our store, and from customers online, as well as reading comments on YouTube.com videos that customers are often confused as to which way is counter-clockwise vs clockwise. While most people do normally understand the difference, when standing to the side and looking up at a ceiling fan, the viewing angle sometimes causes folks to see this direction differently. It’s kind of like the Do You Hear Yanny or Laurel thing that went viral a year or so ago, only this one is easier to solve.

To know for sure which direction a fan is spinning, simply lie down on your back on the floor directly below the fan. Look up. If you see counter-clockwise your fan is already in the spring/summer mode, which blows airflow downward. If it is turning clockwise, then your fan is in its winter mode, and blowing are upward, and you’ll need to reverse it to get to fan’s full cooling benefits for spring/summer usage.

You can do that, or simply replace your old ceiling fan with a cool Smart Fan from Modern Forms Fans. All of their ceiling fans come with a cool in-wall control, giving the lucky owners of Modern Forms ceiling fans 6-speeds, LED lights off/on/dimming. Best of all, all of their fans can be controlled by a really cool smart phone / tablet app allowing for these features, plus a lot more. You’ll be able to set calendars for when and how you want the fan to run, as well as a self learning mode. One of the nicer features is when you press the reverse feature for the fan on your smart device, which causes another screen to open and giving you two options, Summer or Winter, and it explains the difference of each setting. Simply press the setting for the time of year it is and you will always know your Modern Forms fan is turning in the correct direction.

One last thing you can do is to turn your fan on high speed and stand directly below the fan. In the counter-clockwise / summer mode you should feel air blowing directly down below the fan. If you do not feel airflow blowing directly on top of your head it means one of two things…

  1. Your fan is still spinning in the reverse winter mode. Change its direction and see if that helps.
  2. Your fan doesn’t blow enough airflow to make a difference and you need to replace it with one that does its job.
