Downrods for High Ceilings

These are ceiling fan downrods. Downrods are used for high ceilings to lower the fan down closer to the floor so that you'll feel more of the fan's airflow. For angled ceilings a downrod also may be required to lower the ceiling fan so that the blades do not come in contact with the ceiling. Keeping the blades too close to the ceiling on angled ceilings will have a negative affect on the volume of airflow that the fan can produce. With large ceiling fans this can become even a bigger issue. A ceiling fan needs to have space above the blades to draw air from, so without enough space between the blades and the ceiling, the fan cannot produce the intended volume of airflow.

We carry both 1/2" INSIDE diameter downrods and 3/4" INSIDE diameter downrods. Our 1/2 inch downrods are intended for use with Craftmade, Vaxcel/AireRyder, Ellington, and most Gulf Coast ceiling fans. All other brands (including Minka Aire Ceiling Fans we offer are designed to work with the 3/4 inch diameter extension rods. There is no real strength advantage of either downrod diameter the fan you choose may take. However, if you will be mounting your new ceiling fan on a sloped ceiling, the 1/2" downrods will allow the fans to slope an average of 7° more than the 3/4" rods will. Most fans that use 3/4" downrods will slope a maximum of 31°, whereas ceiling fans that use 1/2" extension rods will sloped an average of up to 38°. All fans can slightly differ from in how steep of a pitched ceiling they can install from. Not to worry though, we also carry a Sloped Ceiling Adapter that will allow your new fan to slope 26° extra from what it would do straight out of the box.
