3/4" Ceiling Fan Downrods - Used for installing fans from high ceilings.

Quick Overview

These 3/4" downrods are manufactured by the high quality brands Gulf Coast fans and TroposAir. They are designed to work with most ToposAir and select Gulf Coast models. However, they are also compatible to Casablanca, Minka Aire, Hunter, and Fanimation ceiling fans. When purchasing these for any brand other than TroposAir or Gulf Coast we will ship the closest finish available to your request.

Downrods ship free when paired with most ceiling fan orders, because all orders over $300 qualify for free shipping. If ordering a downrod by itself, the shipping warehouse charges a minimum order fee, plus shipping cost. Due to this we have a flat rate shipping charge of $20 each on all downrods ordered separately without it being placed on an order with a fan.

Details

A downrod is a ceiling fan accessory needed for customers that have higher than normal ceilings. A longer downrod can be added to any ceiling fan as long as the fan was packaged with a short downrod in the box. A flush mount ceiling fan cannot be extended from a ceiling fan downrod, so be sure if you have tall ceilings you do not purchase a flush mounted ceiling fan.

Ceiling fan companies measure the approximate inside diameter of a downrod, not the outside diameter. If purchasing a downrod along with a ceiling fan on the same order, we will guarantee the correct diameter downrod will ship with your fan order. If ordering a downrod as a stand alone item, we do not offer this guarantee.

As for how long of a downrod will be needed there is no 100% set rule for this. Some fan companies suggest dropping a fan on long enough downrod to get it back to an 8' height from the floor. This is okay if you only care about the fan for cooling purposes, but on high ceilings a ceiling fan can be as beneficial in bringing warm air down from the ceiling during the winter months as it is at circulating cool air during the summer months. As a general guide, the closer to the ceiling you leave the fan the better it will work during the winter; whereas the lower you drop the fan the better job it will at keeping you cool during the summer. We suggest somewhere in-between for good year round use.

To get the fan at the perfect height for year round usage subtract your ceiling height by 8 feet, then divide that number by 2 and that number will tell you exactly the length downrod you should use. A standard ceiling height is 8' and doing this will put your fan right in the middle of where it should be in height for perfect year round use. Example: A person having a 20' ceiling will subtract 8' from their 20', leaving them with 12'. Divide 12 by 2 and it leaves 6. A 6 foot downrod is what that person should use in the case.

The above suggestion is for a person that wants the fan to work as well during the winter and they do during the summer. If you only plan on using your fan during the summer you should drop you fan as low as possible. If you plan on using your fan only during the winter, to bring trapped heat back down to the living level, then you need to keep you fan as close to the ceiling as possible. It is your home and your fan, so do what is best for your individual situation.
